Complete Office Supplies and its indigenous office supplies partner Muru Group have won the IAG Partnership Award at this year's Connect Supplier Diversity awards.
Muru Group is a Supply Nation-certified indigenous business which specialises in providing IT hardware, cloud and mobile solutions to the Australian market.
The company also controls Muru Office Supplies (MOS), which specialises in providing office supplies, consumables and stationery, and operates out of 10 strategic locations across Australia.
MOS is also Supply Nation-certified and is a joint venture between Muru Group and Complete Office Supplies, Australia’s largest privately-owned provider of workplace supplies.
The Connect Supplier Diversity awards were presented at the conclusion of the two-day 2015 Connect event in Sydney, attended by more than 1300 people.
Among the sponsors of Connect 2015 were Staples and Kulbardi, the WA-based indigenous organisation that is in partnership with Quick Corporate.
The event coincided with the federal government's announcement of a new strengthened Indigenous Procurement Policy to come into effect on 1 July 2015.
The strengthened policy includes procurement targets of three per cent of federal government contracts each year from indigenous suppliers by 2020 with interim targets each year from 1 July 2015, and mandatory processes to consider indigenous businesses for certain contracts.
All agencies subject to Commonwealth procurement rules will be required to meet these targets.
Supply Nation, the business-to-business membership body connecting Australian corporates, government departments and non-government organisations with indigenous business suppliers, has welcomed the government's new policy.
From the beginning of July, Supply Nation will host a free directory of indigenous businesses that are 50 per cent or more indigenous-owned.
“We’re excited to be once again in a leadership role promoting world-class supplier diversity in Australia and we look forward to growing our capability to deliver premium services to our certified indigenous suppliers and our member base over the coming months,” Stephen Roberts, chairperson of Supply Nation, said.
