David Haydon is making the UK his 'Homebase'.

David Haydon, who was widely tipped to succeed Mark Ward as managing director of Officeworks, is transferring to the UK where he has been named trading and commercial manager of Homebase, the hardware chain behind Wesfarmers' newly-established Bunnings UK and Ireland business.

As Officeworks' director of merchandise, marketing, supply chain, store development and e-commerce Haydon is credited with rejuvenating the Officeworks' product range and driving its 'every channel' strategy.

His move to Bunnings UK follows last week's announcement by Wesfarmers that it has shelved plans for an initial public offering for Officeworks (see separate story).

According to media reports, it is believed Haydon’s decision to leave was a personal one and not linked to the decision to pull the plug on a float for Officeworks.

Wesfarmers plans to rebrand the Homebase business, comprising 255 stores, under the Bunnings name within three to five years.
